Greek Chocolate Salami: A simple, decadent dessert for chocolate lovers!
This decadent, no-bake chocolate salami is a must try recipe for every chocolate lover! It features a buttery base, cognac infused sweet crackers and walnuts.
What is Salami?
Chocolate salami, often called Mo-sa-i-ko or Kor-mos, is an easy, no bake dessert. Although, it originates from Portugal, Salame is a popular treat all across Europe with numerous different variations. The Greek version uses cocoa powder, tea biscuits, nuts (typically walnuts) and cognac. It has a rich, chocolaty flavor combined with a nice crunch from the crackers and walnuts. Best part; it only takes 20 minutes to make and you can get as creative as you want using different nuts combinations.
Without doubt, I can easily declare chocolate salami as every Greek’s favorite dessert! And folks; trust me I’m not exaggerating. Even if you are not Greek, I’m sure if you have been to Greece and ate in a traditional tavern, you tried chocolate salami. It is on every tavern’s menu.
Ingredients for chocolate salami
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: This Greek salami gets its deep chocolate flavor from mixing the hot butter and unsweetened cocoa powder. This intensifies the cocoa taste and adds more depth.
- Cognac: Although the recipe uses just two tablespoons of cognac, it is enough to elevate the chocolate salami. Moreover, it enhances the chocolate flavor.
- Walnuts: Walnuts pair perfectly with chocolate. Alternatively, you can use almonds, pistachios or hazelnuts.
How to make Chocolate Salami
Start by mixing together the melted butter, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, powdered sugar and salt until combined (see photo 1). In a different bowl, roughly break the crackers with your hands. Pour the cognac, making sure all crackers are covered evenly (see photo 2).
[easy-image-collage id=2431]Fold in the crackers into the chocolate mixture. Then add the walnuts in the mixture and stir until incorporated (see photo 3).
Spread the mixture on a piece of parchment paper and shape into a log (see photo 4 & 5). Twist the edges to secure the filling.

- 1/2 cup Unsweetened Cocoa powder sifted
- 1 1/2 cups Powdered sugar sifted
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 3 cups Graham Crackers
- 2 tbsp Cognac
- 2 cups Walnuts chopped
Instructions
- In a large bowl mix together the melted butter, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, powdered sugar and salt until combined.
- In a different bowl roughly break the crackers with your hands.
- Pour the cognac, making sure all crackers are covered evenly.
- Fold in the crackers into the chocolate mixture.
- Add the walnuts in the mixture and stir until incorporated.
- Spread the mixture on a piece of parchment paper and shape into a log. Twist the edges to secure the filling.
- Wrap the log tightly with plastic wrap to ensure it has a uniform, cylindrical shape.
- Freeze for 3 hours.
- Cut into slices and serve.
Notes
- Sift both cocoa powder and powdered sugar as they tend to be lumpy. This will ensure an even batter.
- Instead of parchment paper and plastic wrap you can also use aluminum foil to wrap the chocolate salami. It works just fine but you will not get a cylindrical shape as even.
- You can either freeze or refrigerate chocolate salami.
- Chocolate salami can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 2 months. When ready to serve, remove chocolate salami from freezer and let it sit for 20 minutes before cutting into slices.
- If you plan to serve chocolate salami to children, omit the cognac.
- You can top chocolate salami with dusted cocoa powder or powdered sugar.

Absolutely delicious! But hard to slice. Is that because I had too many cookies?
Thank you for the feedback! It could be the extra cookies or the chocolate salami might was too frozen. I usually pop it out from the freezer and let it sit in room temperature for 10 minutes before slicing. Hope that helps!
