Easy Caramelized Banana Phyllo Cups

These flaky bite sized mini phyllo cups only take 20 minutes to make. They are filled with a velvety cream cheese filling and are topped with caramelized bananas and chocolate flakes. A great, no-bake dessert ideal for family and friends!

A light go-to dessert

Phyllo pastry desserts are a huge part of Greek cuisine culture. Baklavas, Galaktoboureko and so many other Greek delicacies use phyllo dough. I often hear people are intimidated by using phyllo pastry and I want to tell you right now that you shouldn’t! The recipe I’m sharing today is a proof that phyllo desserts can be easy and fun to make. I have a sweet tooth which is one of the reasons I started this baking blog in the first place. However, some times I need a bite sized and light dessert to satisfy my cravings. These caramelized banana phyllo cups are quick and equally decadent like muffins and cakes.

Moreover, they are a life saver for last minute family dinners, gatherings or just when your children want to have something sweet. Beware, these caramelized banana phyllo cups are infectious and never lasted more than a few hours in my house!

How to make Caramelized Banana Phyllo Cups

As I mentioned before this is a no-fuss recipe because baking doesn’t always have to be complicated!

To begin with, place the phyllo cups in a cutting board and allow them to come to room temperature. I used the Mini Fillo Shells from the Fillo Factory. Bake at 375F for about 5 minutes until they get golden brown. Allow phyllo cups to cool down before filling. Easy peasy!

Caramelized Bananas

This is the highlight of the recipe! Caramelized bananas give these phyllo cups a nutty and syrupy flavor. The tiny bits of caramelized sugar add crunchiness and pair excellently with the flaky phyllo cups.

The ingredients needed for the caramelized banana slices.

Start by cutting a large banana in 15 slices, then set aside. In a small bowl add the granulated sugar. Now, roll the banana slices into the sugar making sure all sides are coated. Heat a small frying pan over medium-high heat and add one teaspoon of coconut oil. Fry the banana slices till golden brown for about 4 minutes. Turn down the heat to medium and flip the banana slices. They will get brown in about 1 minute. Remove the caramelized bananas and set aside to cool down.

Cream Cheese Filling

In a medium bowl cream together with a hand mixer, the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar and vanilla extract till smooth. Transfer the cream cheese filling in a piping bag and set aside.

Assemble the Phyllo Cups

This is the last and fun part of these caramelized banana phyllo cups. Firstly, pipe the cream cheese filling into the phyllo cups. Secondly, top each phyllo cup with a caramelized banana slice. Lastly, add some chocolate flakes on top and serve!

Banana phyllo cups for the win!

Give this recipe a try and you will never look back. Phyllo cup desserts are my go to recipe whenever I’m hosting a dinner or birthday party. I tend to use bananas because I love how good they go with cream cheese and chocolate but you can use any other fresh fruit- berries, kiwis and pineapples are also amazing! Additionally, these mini phyllo cups are no-bake, vegetarian and egg-free. Enjoy responsibly!
